INTEL is the international electrotechnics and electronics fair sponsored by ANIE (National Federation of Electrotechnical and Electronic Firms) which holds the World Light Show, an exhibition of lighting technology products. At this year’s event, Clay Paky displayed a full range of products for architectural lighting, a particular sector that welcomes ever more varied and innovative developments. Clay Paky not only presented its Display Line of projectors for visual information, but also a series of compact projectors with a moving body and beam, spotlights for general lighting and color changers.
THE NEW CP COLOR CHANGERS
CP COLOR is this year’s brand new line of professional color changers, which have been designed for theatrical settings and television studios, as well as being ideal for “everyday” environments, such as inside shops and shopping centres or in exhibitions, general lighting in discos and other entertainment settings. CP COLOR – available in the models with the 150W, 250W or 400W lamp – offers CMY color mixing, dimmers, special filters for varying the beam aperture (including an ovalizing filter) and operates automatically or by means of a control unit. The Cp Color-E model, specifically designed for outdoors, illuminates monuments, columns, fountains, details of facades, historical and artistic elements, as well as other urban settings.
“EXPERIENCING LIGHT” SHOW
INTEL also held “Experiencing Light”, organised by Assi (National Association of Lighting Manufacturers), where lighting designers, architects, art historians and philosophers tackled the theme “light” in general, with a focus on architectural lighting. During this show, prizes were awarded to the Lighting Designers who took part in the competition “Illuminated Monuments”.
ILLUMINATED MONUMENTS IN MILAN
Organised by AEM, ASSIL and APIL, this competition involved lighting some monuments found in the most important squares in the centre of Milan. The event had a number of aims: enhancing frequently overlooked monuments in the busy comings and goings of the city squares, furthering the knowledge of light among the city dwellers, as well as promoting design and creativity among young Lighting Designers. A jury of experts examined the designs and later awarded the monument prize to Cristiana Donzelli, for lighting the monument to Camillo Benso in Piazza Cavour.
An important creativity prize also went to the monument to Vittorio Emanuele in Piazza Duomo, designed by Guido Bianchi and Jacopo Acciaro: the statue was illuminated in such a way that it projected a silhouette on the facing buildings: yet instead of being a cone-shaped shadow it was… colored! This highly original effect was achieved by another spotlight at the feet of the statue, which projected a colored gobo shaped like the statue. The monument in Piazza Duomo was illuminated by Clay Paky Golden Scar projectors with a 1200W lamp.
PALAZZO CLERICI
The gala dinner organised by AEM and the Milan City Council was held in the magnificent setting of Palazzo Clerici. Clay Paky Stage Zooms 1200 illuminated both the atrium of the building and the internal courtyard, enlivening them with a continuously moving wave of colors and graphic effects, while the CP COLORs colored the facade that towered above the main entrance to the building. This lighting design, aimed at enhancing public buildings by coloring the walls or by projecting evocative ascending graphic drawings, can clearly be a stimulus for new designs that help make our cities more colorful, lively and habitable.
