Italy – PLASA 2012 sponsor Clay Paky has announced the winner of a unique Union Jack Sharpy luminaire, which was used to light London’s magical Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert.
Jacek Pancierzenski, sales and marketing of the Polish company GIG – a leading and experienced distributor and seller of lighting equipment designed for the television, theatres, film and discos – is now the proud owner of the now infamous Union Jack Sharpy.
Visitors to this year’s PLASA trade show at Earl’s Court were invited to enter Clay Paky’s ‘win a Union Jack Sharpy’ competition by placing their business cards into a hat on the demo area.
Durham Marenghi, the lighting designer at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June, has signed Jacek’s Sharpy and was on hand to help announce the winner alongside Clay Paky Sales and Marketing Director Pio Nahum. When Durham Marenghi reached Jacek Pancierzenski by phone, he said he was thrilled to win “a piece of history.”
The Union Jack design cover was made by Clay Paky to honour the Jubilee celebrations last summer and the Sharpys were donated specifically for the event. Placed directly on the stage, the Union Jack Sharpys received a lot of attention and featured prominently in TV and photographic coverage internationally. Pio Nahum, chief commercial officer for Clay Paky said at the time: “We wanted to offer our own personalised contribution to the historical Queen’s Jubilee Event. The UK is a country which has given a huge amount to our brand and this was our way of saying thank-you.”
